Aircon Troubleshooting Guide

Simple checks you can safely do yourself before calling a technician. Tap a problem below to see the steps.

Safety first. Turn the unit off before checking it. If you smell burning, see sparks, or notice scorched plugs, stop right away and call us — do not keep using the unit.

Aircon not turning on The unit is completely dead — no lights, no fan, no response from the remote.
  1. 1 Check the power cable is not damaged and is firmly plugged into the outlet.
  2. 2 Check your circuit breaker — switch it back ON if it has tripped.
  3. 3 Test the outlet with another appliance to confirm it has power.
  4. 4 Replace the remote batteries and point it directly at the indoor unit.

If you smell burning or see scorch marks on the plug or outlet, stop immediately and call a technician.

Aircon runs but is not cooling The fan is blowing but the air is warm or the room never gets cold.
  1. 1 Set the mode to “Cool” and lower the temperature below the room temperature.
  2. 2 Clean or wash the air filters. A clogged filter is the most common cause of weak cooling.
  3. 3 Close all doors and windows in the room.
  4. 4 Check the outdoor unit is not blocked by plants, walls, or debris.

Ice on the pipes, or still-weak cooling after cleaning, usually means low refrigerant — book a technician.

Weak or low airflow Air comes out but feels weak, even at high fan speed.
  1. 1 Wash the air filters and let them fully dry before putting them back.
  2. 2 Make sure the indoor unit louvers (flaps) are open and not blocked.
  3. 3 Move any furniture or curtains blocking the front of the unit.

Water dripping from the indoor unit Water drips or leaks from the indoor unit onto the wall or floor.
  1. 1 Turn the unit OFF to avoid water damage.
  2. 2 Check the drain hose outside is not bent, blocked, or lifted upward.
  3. 3 Clean the air filters — dirty filters cause condensation to overflow.

If leaking continues after these checks, the drain line needs cleaning by a technician.

Unusual noise or vibration Rattling, buzzing, or loud vibration from the indoor or outdoor unit.
  1. 1 Check the front cover and filters are properly clicked back into place.
  2. 2 Look for loose objects resting on or against the outdoor unit.

Noise that continues after these checks may mean a loose part — call a technician.

Remote control not working The unit runs but the remote does not respond, or the display is blank.
  1. 1 Replace the batteries with a fresh set, checking the + / − direction.
  2. 2 Point the remote directly at the indoor unit, within a few meters.
  3. 3 If the display stays blank, the remote may need replacement.
